Origins of Salt
We can't speak about Black Ritual Salt without understanding the power of salt in its original form. "As far back as 6050 BC, salt has been an important and integral part of the world's history, as it has been interwoven into countless civilizations. Used as a part of Egyptian religious offerings and valuable trade between the Phoenicians and their Mediterranean empire, salt, and history have been inextricably intertwined for millennia... This is an excerpt from, The History of Salt, a must-read to understand the origins of salt and its influence on religion and economics across cultures. Black Salt for Protection is used by Pagans, Voodoo, Hoodoo, LucumÃ, and Wiccan practitioners, and Witches from all cultures and all walks of life for banishing, removing curses and hexes, cleansing, and protection.
How to Use Black Ritual Salt
Ritual Black Salt (not to be confused with Kala Namak or Himalayan Black Salt ) is a multi-purpose ingredient. I love using Ritual Black Salt because it's discrete and easy to incorporate into my spiritual practice. Below are some simple ways that you can incorporate black salt for ritual and protection into your spiritual practice.
Sprinkle some Black Salt for Protection and Ritual in your doorways windows, and corners of each room in your home. I lived in Brooklyn next to a wretched neighbor who immediately made clear her dislike for my husband and me. She was a mother of young children so I didn't want to resort to baneful magic. I also didn't want to engage in a verbal or physical confrontation with her. I simply wanted her to leave my husband and I alone. I did what any clever witch would do. I sprinkled some Ritual Black Salt in my doorway to keep her away from my door and windows and to keep us safe. She left us alone until we moved out.
Use Ritual Black Salt to dress your candles. Candle magick is beautiful and powerful. Take a black or white candle and anoint it with clove, frankincense, or olive oil, and sprinkle Ritual Black Salt all over the candle. Set your intention or say a prayer for divine protection for your highest and best good with harm to none. Aside from protection, a Black Salt Ritual candle is great for banishing, breaking hexes and curses, cleansing, and grounding. Sometimes, I also add spelled clove oil from Moonlight and Sage. (I love and respect her work).
Place Black Ritual Salt in sachets or mojo bags. Create a personal sachet or mojo bag with black salt, black tourmaline, a nazar, or other protective herbs or charms that may call to you. Keep the sachet in your car, purse, backpack, desk, under your pillow, or in your pocket to keep away negativity.
Make a Magick bottle of Black Ritual Salt. Keep a small bottle of black salt for ritual or protection on your desk, nightstand, or window sills. Black salt absorbs, and repels negative energies and entities. Aside from being very powerful, Black Salt for Protection and Ritual by Moondust and Raven comes in a beautiful glass bottle. You can simply peel off the label, set your intention, and display it wherever you like. You can also refill it with the Black Salt recipe in this post.
Clean your spiritual tools, altars, workspace, or home with Black Ritual Salt. Add Black Ritual Salt to water, speak your intentions, and use it to mop your floors (after regular sweeping and mopping), wipe down your work desk or altars, and clean your spiritual tools.
How to Make Black Salt for Protection and Rituals
Channel your inner kitchen witch and look for opportunities to use items from your pantry or purchase versatile items that can easily be used in different ways. This way, you don't have to spend extra money on very niche ingredients used solely for spellwork. For example, I always have sea salt, whole peppercorns, rosemary, and red pepper chili flakes in my cabinet. When I purchase certain herbs or condiments, I buy them in bulk, half for my kitchen, and half for spells.

Mortar and pestle
Cauldron or fire-safe dish for burning herbs
